September 14, 2010 - ATR has delivered its 900th aircraft, an ATR 72-500, to Brazilian airline TRIP Linhas Aéreas. This 68-seat aircraft brings to 30 the total fleet of ATRs of the airline. TRIP is the second-largest ATR operator in the world and the largest regional operator in Latin America, with flights over more than 70 destinations in Brazil.

"I’m delighted to receive our 30th ATR aircraft and to continue our close links with ATR," says José Mario Caprioli dos Santos, Chief Executive Officer of TRIP. "Over the past 11 years ATRs have proved their worth in our regional operations.

“We particularly value their environmental friendliness, passenger comfort, together with their fuel efficiency and low operating costs, reliability and strong short-runway performance. Our ATR turboprops are enabling us to cover the largest regional network in our country and to meet the demand of a large range of markets. With our new aircraft, we will also be able to further expand our network and add frequencies."

Filippo Bagnato, Chief Executive Officer of ATR, says. "I welcome two more milestones for ATR: our 30th delivery to TRIP and our 900th delivery overall. With its population of over 180 million and rapid economic development, Brazil is bringing us strong opportunities to further introduce our aircraft in the region. We have today more than 100 ATRs flying in Latin America. Their ability to link main towns and remote areas, their unrivalled operating and maintenance costs, as well as their high standards of comfort are contributing to consolidate our success among the operators of the continent."

TRIP introduced its first ATR, an ATR 42-320, in 1999. Since then TRIP has greatly expanded its ATR fleet to become the world’s second-largest operator of ATRs, after American Eagle.

On typical 300 Nm (550 km) regional flights, ATRs bring significant economic and environmental benefits. Over this distance an ATR 72-500’s fuel costs and CO2 emissions are up to 50% lower than similar-sized regional jets.

TRIP is the largest regional airline in South America. After 12 years of activity, it serves more than 70 cities with a fleet of 37 regional aircraft. The company is controlled by the Caprioli and Águia Branca groups, both of which are traditional passenger carriers, have histories of solid results, and sustained growth. One of TRIP’s investors, with a 20% share of its capital, is the U.S.’s SkyWest, Inc. that, with 696 aircraft, is the biggest regional airline in the world.

Formed in 1981, ATR has grown to become the world’s leading manufacturer of advanced 50 to 74 seat regional turboprop aircraft. ATR is a joint venture and equal partnership between major European aerospace companies Alenia Aeronautica (a Finmeccanica company) and EADS. ATR’s headquarters are in Toulouse, southern France. In 2009 the company generated a record turnover of US$1.4 billion (€1.1 billion).

ATR has sold more than 1,000 ATR 42 and ATR 72 aircraft, which are used by over 150 operators in 80 countries. These have accumulated a total of around 18 million cycles. ATR is certified to ISO 14001, the worldwide standard for environmental management and sustainability.
