October 6, 1908, Wilbur Wright established a new world record by maintaining flight for 1 hour and 4 minutes while carrying a passenger. His prior record with a passenger was 55 minutes. Wibur had enters into a contract with a French manufacturing company.

The contract stated the Wright's aircraft would need to sustain flight with a passenger two times in one week and if this defeat was accomplished the Wrights would thin need to relinquish the patent rights of the machine and for that they would be given $100,000. The Wrights were able to meets the requirements and they were awarded the money. For the Wrights this will come at a needed time. Wilbur had express their desire to continue build and improve on the airship.
