Aviator's Child Found Dead The $50,000. Ransom Was Paid  

On May 12, 1932, Charles A. Lindbergh's 20 month old child was found dead just a short distance from the Lindbergh's residence. The Lindbergh's had paid the $50,000. ransom (in marked bills) that was demanded by the kidnappers (see Aviators Baby Kidnapped From His Crib   for more information on the kidnaping from the home). The kidnappers negotiated the location to pick up the money and indicated that the child was on a boat off the cost of Massachusetts. Lindbergh had flown the coast in search of his child with no luck, while the ransom was being paid by a close friend of the family.  It is believed that organized crime members may be involved.

Al Capone who is believed to be involved in organized crime indicated he would offer $10,000. for the safe return of the child unharmed. He also indicated if he were let out of jail he would be able to find the child. However, the district attorney indicated he would not allow Capone out has he fear Capone would leave the country. On May 12, 1932, a truck driver who entered the woods to relieve him self had stumble on the remains of the 20 month year old Lindbergh child.
