Three Quebec Prisoners Escape By Helicopter

June 8, 2014 - Royal Canadian Mounted Police are working with law enforcement agencies, airports and the FBI in an effort to capture three prisoners who escaped on Saturday night from Orsainville Detention Centre, Quebec, Canada by helicopter.

The detainees have been identified as Yves Denis, 35, Denis Lefebvre, 53, and Serge Pomerleau, 49. All three men were being held at the detention center awaiting trial for murder. This is the second time in 15 months that a helicopter was used in a prison break in Quebec.

The helicopter, painted green landed in the courtyard of the detention center, at which time the three men jumped into the helicopter and it then took off in a westerly direction. The three men have been placed on top of Quebec's 'Most Wanted' list. It is believed that the three men are members of organized crime.

The three prisoners had requested a Quebec court to have relaxed security on them while being held and awaiting trial, which is their right to make the request. On Friday a court judge granted the detainees their request for relaxed security which afforded them the ability to have court yard visits and without being handcuff.

Quebec Public Security minister Lise Thériault said “The judge accepted the prisoners’ request. There will certainly be legitimate questions to ask ourselves about that.”
